Welcome to this blogpage where we tell you how technology and nature come together to bring us closer to the water and wildlife at Lorong Halus wetland! Go down the webpage and discover how the wetland helps to keep water in the Serangoon Reservoir clean.

Info about Serangoon Reservoir and Lorong Halus wetland
Serangoon Reservoir is Singapore's 17th reservoir, built under the Punggol - Serangoon reservoir Scheme. The river mouths of Punggol and Serangoon rivers have been dammed up to create Punggol and Serangoon Reservoirs. Besides the Serangoon Reservoir is a wetland called as Lorong Halus wetland.  The former landfill site has been transformed under the PUB's Active, Beautiful, Clean Waters (ABC Waters) programme which transforms our network of drains, canals and reservoirs into beautiful and vibrant streams, rivers and lakes for recreation and community bonding. Besides creating a space for people to enjoy and be close to our waters, the wetland also helps to safeguard the quality of the water by treating and cleansing the water in the reservoir. Furthermore, the wetland also provides a natural habitat for wildlife, enhancing the biodiversity of the area.

Why there is a need for Lorong Halus wetland?
Serangoon Reservoir is the only reservoir to be belocated next to an old landfill site. When it rains, water passes through the waste buried underneath this now unused landfill. This water, also known as leachate, may seep into the reservoir and pollute our water. That was why Lorong Halus wetland was built so as to clean this leachate before it reaches the reservoir.
